Next Step Ministries -- the collaborative efforts known for several past winters as Code Blue -- are taking the proverbial reins of the Saving Grace shelter on Grace Street from the American Rescue Workers.
"This agreement allows two organizations that care deeply about our community to focus on what each does best," Ben Hazen, ARW's executive director, told the Sun-Gazette for a report in our Thursday edition.
The two organization shared further details for how the change allows them to meet the needs of the families they help -- and it is an unfortunate, tragic necessity that families in our communities and neighborhoods find themselves in circumstances in which they need this help.
As always, we must note how thankful everyone in our communities should feel for the hard work -- often difficult work -- that these organizations and their volunteers provide.
Both the American Rescue Workers and Code Blue are among the many organizations with proven track records of helping people and of addressing a vital need in our communities. We are grateful for their continued hard work and confident the steps they are taking will best position both organizations to fulfill their important missions.
