This weekend, the Little League Baseball World Series concludes in South Williamsport.
The nuance that the sports organization was founded in Williamsport and now hosts the championship in the neighboring community is often lost on visiting media and other visitors, to the amusement of some community members and the frustration of others.
But the nature of our region is a lot like baseball, and the distinction between South Williamsport and Williamsport -- and all the other boroughs, townships and communities that comprise our region -- is itself a reminder that, as in baseball, life is a product of teamwork.
Success on the baseball field is a product of teammates, bringing different gifts and abilities to different roles, while all sharing a dedication to working hard, practicing and honing those skills.
Our region, as we've editorialized before, is blessed to host the Little League World Series.
We also are blessed to have our city and the smaller towns and rural countryside that surround it.
Every community has its own special stories, landmarks, traditions and memories. Every community in our region makes our region a more rewarding place.
We are blessed to offer families choices and opportunities in how to build their lives. We are blessed that men and women can find blue-collar factories and white-collar office work and every shade of opportunity between in our region.
And the lives and communities we build support each other and offer each other -- other communities, other businesses -- better opportunities to thrive.
Our workplaces, our churches and civic groups -- our daily lives, whether in Jersey Shore, Linden, Montgomery, Muncy, Hughesville, Loyalsock Township, Montoursville or, yes, Williamsport or South Williamsport are better with teamwork. We see the value in teamwork there and then just as we see it on the baseball fields this time of year.
And as another Little League World Series ends and teammates celebrate a championship earned with teamwork, its a good moment to reflect on what teamwork has meant for our families and communities.
