Reflections on a poll

3 min read

I write on August 6 as the invertebrate Republican Senators threaten to confirm as the nation's top attorney the defense lawyer who (1) saw his client convicted by a unanimous jury for more than thirty felony convictions for trying to write off as legitimate business expenses his hush money payments to a porn star, but (2) nevertheless remains too power-hungry and self-interested to leave behind his role as attorney for the most criminal president since Nixon (who ironically resigned on this date fifty years ago in the face of certain conviction on impeachment charges.) Blanche has shown himself incapable of appreciating that being Attorney General requires loyalty to the Constitution rather than to his previous multiply-indicted and convicted client.

The reversal of Senators Cornyn and Tillis to now support Blanche for Attorney General is ill-grounded and laughable. Blanche didn't reupudiate or deny his role in the settlement of a bogus lawsuit brought by the president (likely barred by the Statute of Limitations, even though not a single remaining DoJ attorney saw fit to raise it in defense of taxpayer dollars, an ethical breach over which more than one resigned), and to which Blanche personally drafted an addendum the purpose of which was to insulate the fraudster president, his family and businesses (probably in violation of federal law) from tax audits and liability, which peculiarly he alone, rather than any named parties on either side of the bogus suit, signed; all this coming after the dual farce of the reflecting pool idiocy which characterizes the 47th presidency, along with the disclosure in other litigation in which Trump acting not as president, but as an individual, sued Capital One forcing that bank to disclose that the reason it was closing all Trump-related accounts was because regulatory protocols ticked too many boxes suggesting the account holders were involved in money laundering.

It bears noting that it the Department of the Interior has now concluded beyond peradventure that the still unresolved problems with the Reflecting Pool are on account of contractor fault, the one 47 hired without accepting competitive bids so he could in rushed advance of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4 rub his erroneously-anticipated success in resolving those problems in the faces of former Presidents Obama and Biden. What was obvious to many escaped the notice of dear leader, who instead ranted long and loud but unpersuasively that the reflecting pool issues he failed to fix were rather the fault of vandals, one of whom happened to be a former Olympics medal winner on a bicycle, charged with much pomp and circumstance, but without much in the way of facts, the serious felony of damaging federal property. The charges were dropped, and the prosecuting federal attorney, the all-too-eager-to-indict, hand-picked, former Fox commentator Janine Piro had to eat crow, much to the displeasure of her bosses (Blanche and Trump).

The Reflecting Pool reflects his shameless inability to be accountable and his need for having a patsy to blame when his choices fall so dismally short of effective or competent.

Likewise, Blanche was not fit to be Deputy Attorney General, nor has his behaviour shown him to be fit to continue to serve as Acting, much less confirmed as the Attorney General.
