We congratulate St. John's School of the Arts on its 30-year anniversary -- and are grateful for the school and all the programs in our region that help introduce youngsters and the public to the value of the arts.
The anniversary celebration, held recently, was featured in Thursday's edition of the Williamsport Sun-Gazette.
As that article noted, "for three decades, SOTA has impacted thousands of lives through its mission of providing excellent instruction in the fine and performing arts, guided by the love of Christ. We are so very appreciative of our connections with mission partners, donors, families, faculty, and friends that continue to sustain our daily operations. But most importantly, we see the impact in our students as they grow through their art - knowing they are part of a community that loves them."
The programs St. John's School of the Arts, Uptown Music Collective, the Community Theatre League and other programs offer teach young people the importance of hard work and self-improvement -- skills they will apply to future careers and to being prepared to better help their communities.
Too often, we hear that region does not offer people -- especially young people -- enough to do. We often suspect that this accusation is unfair -- our communities have many programs and initiatives for young people and our communities have these programs because people care enough to put in the hard work and time -- in the case of St. John's School of the Arts, 30 years -- to ensure the programs succeed.
Again, we are thankful for that time and that hard work, and we believe all of our communities should recognize that our region is better for it.
