Why is it so hard to prevent violence by a person who maybe mental ill or mental retarded who uses a gun? Both state and federal laws were written to protect both groups. These same laws are not protecting the general population. What the public screamers are asking for is gun control instead of reviewing the laws that are now handcuffing police and the medical profession asked to make a determination if this person is a "danger to self or other". How does one protect from an act before it happens?
An example of these laws are the Americans with Disabilities Act, and Pennsylvania’s Mental Health/ Mental Retardation Act of 1966. These laws are not bad but they may need examination and revised. What has happened through federal legislation there is little representation of majority reality.
The latest attempt is DACA, which will mean this group will go from "illegal" to "to legal?" If you think I’m discriminating, you need to know I grew up in the hard coal fields of eastern Pennsylvania. Consider one thing the name of the church - for me it was Slovak, Polish, Ukanrian or Irish. I also was a special ed teacher. Years ago I had many children labeled mentally retarded or emotionally ill.
