Term limits

It would seem that the longer a politician remains in office, the more his obsession for power increases. Now I’m not saying that it happens to all politicians, but I’m afraid it happens to the majority of them. That is why it is so important to have term limits. You end up with a certain amount of longtime politicians trying to bully and control everything. They crowd out the will of shorter-term politicians. When you have career politicians who have been in politics for 20 to 38 years (and we do), it only leads to disastrous, unproductive results.

The question is: What should the term limits be? The president is limited to two terms, but should that apply to Congress as well? Perhaps that amount of time might be allowed for Congressional politicians, but I seriously think it ought not exceed 12 years. Maybe we should do away with career politicians and along with that, eliminate their retirement benefits. I don’t think it is acceptable to allow individuals to become career politicians. Certainly we have enough caring people in this country to fill any vacancies in Congress. And if any politician is worth anything at all, they should be able to find another career opportunity when they finish out their term. Probably the same thing needs to happen in the Supreme Court. Currently, the only ways they retire from serving are personal choice or death. Term limits may well better serve this country. Maybe a compulsory cutoff age should be set for the Supreme Court — once a Supreme Court justice reaches that age, he or she would be required to resign.

Oh well, these are some of my thoughts today. Have I bored you enough yet?

Have a great day. God bless America!
