Self defense

2 min read

First let me state, that I'm a veteran who served in a combat zone (Infantry) during the Vietnam War. I was not a "Desk Jockey." As such I take offense to the liberal left constantly attempting to push their false interpolation of the Second Amendment onto the public, in hopes, that if they keep telling their lies that sooner or later it will be accepted as the truth.

Example: The letter "A house divided" that appeared in the Nov. 5 paper states the Second Amendment to the Constitution begins with the clause, "A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state" and goes on to guarantee citizens the right to bear arms. The implication of the introductory clause makes the intention of the amendment itself clear. Militias are constituted by a state entity (either federal or state) for the purpose of securing the safety of citizens. Sorry but this statement is false.

The District of Columbia vs. Heller 554US570 (2008) was a landmark decision of the Supreme Court ruling that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to keep and bear arms, unconnected with service in a militia for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense.

However, I will concede to the author of the letter, "Nice try -- no cigar."
