I am proposing this to be some uplifting news. Some statements are quoted from our Founding Fathers and comments from a couple recent leaders. As I understand, most of our Founding Fathers were Quakers and good Christian men. These men had many quotable quotes, but here are a few:
• George Washington, 1797: "Cherish public credit." He saw the need to establish a line of credit for the nation to fund economic expansion.
• John Adams, 1801: "Respect for property rights is a cornerstone of American Law."
• Thomas Jefferson, 1809: "Those who labor in the Earth are the chosen people of God."
• James Madison, 1817: "Traffic in enslaved Africans is equally in violation of the laws of humanity."
• James Monroe, 1825: "It may be advisable to extend to the purchases of these lands a reasonable indulgence."
• John F. Kennedy, 1964: "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."
• George W. Bush, 2013: "Read my lips." His biggest error!
Just recently we celebrated Martin Luther King Day. He made many quotes which helped shape our nation's thinking on equal rights, fairness and justice.
The above Founding Fathers and more participated in drafting the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights and our Constitution. Their brilliance radiates all through these documents. They weren't alone through the process; they prayed to God constantly for guidance.
When I was 10 years old and in Becht Elementary School, my teachers had us memorize the Preamble and we studied all these documents. That was a superb exercise. I remember it today, in fact, I keep a copy of each next to my bed, in my nightstand.
With the disturbances and politicians around the country today shunning the Constitution, it can be very uplifting to pull out these documents and review them. It gives one assurances and confidence in our republic. That reading and some Bible reading can really give you a boost in attitude and energy for the day ahead. Try it, it is more than good for the soul.
