Controlling people

2 min read

In April of 1775, the British Governor of Massachusetts attempted to confiscate the arms of the colonists, who were at the time British citizens, for fear that these citizens, who objected to the oppression they were experiencing, might rebel. This first attempt at gun control in our history led to the first battle of the Revolutionary War, and was the driving force behind the Second Amendment to the Untied States Constitution.

Then in the Antebellum South, many states passed so-called Slave Codes, which among other things prohibited slaves from owning guns. This was done because of a fear that slaves might rebel against their treatment. After the Civil War, many of these same states passed Black Codes prohibiting African-Americans from owning guns for the same reason.

After the Communists took over Russia and later China, one of the first things they did was confiscate guns from the people because they well knew that people who are badly mistreated will rebel. That's how they took power in the first place. Tens of millions of people were then killed in both cases.

This pattern continued in Communist revolutions all around the world throughout the twentieth century.

In the Ottoman Empire, the Armenians were systematically disarmed and then massacred because it was feared that they might want independence, taking some of the best land in the empire with them.

Today, we have those in government wanting to disarm the American people. This at a time when, in my opinion, government is becoming ever more controlling, and some would say oppressive. They tell us this is for our own safety, but that's what most of these other government told their people also.

If they were really concerned with our safety, wouldn't they enforce the gun laws already on the books? Would they release violent criminals before their sentences were served? Would they reduce charges from violent felonies to misdemeanors?

No my friends, gun control is not about your safety, it is about safety for government. I'd like to leave you with two quotes:

"To disarm the people is the most effectual way to enslave them," -- George Mason

"Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act depriving a whole nation of arms as the blackest." -- Mahatma Gandhi
