Insurrection vs. riot

1 min read

In response to a recent letter to the paper stating that the attack on the Capitol on January 6th was a riot, not an insurrection, here are the definitions for both: Insurrection – A violent uprising against authority or government; the act of revolt or rebellion against established government or government authority by a group of citizens. Riot -- A violent disturbance of the peace by one or more persons; part of an assemblage of three or more persons which act or acts shall constitute a clear and present danger. I think it's pretty clear what Jan. 6 was regardless of how the right wants to portray what happened.
