Rapid response

1 min read

Former Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, recently criticized President Biden for waiting so long before responding to the drone strike that killed three US service members. Evidently, Pompeo wanted a more rapid response.

I guess he was thinking back to those halcyon days when he served under President Trump. Specifically, the time Trump ordered a drone strike to kill Iranian General Qasem Soleimani. Here's how that went:

After the drone strike, Trump warned Iran that the US will retaliate with "1,000 times greater" force against any Iranian attack on US interests. Well, Iran did attack our interests. And that missile attack resulted in a number of US service personnel suffering concussions and traumatic brain injuries (TBI).

And what was Trump's response? He rapidly dismissed the service members' injuries as "headaches." The Veterans of Foreign Wars were outraged at Trump's cowardly, but rapid, response and demanded an apology from Trump. They never got one.
