When we fight together

Recently, petrochemical company Encina canceled its plans to build a “chemical recycling” plant in Point Township. This outcome was a direct result of people standing up to protect their community. David fought Goliath and won. It was made loud and clear that toxic petrochemical plants have no place in Pennsylvania communities. Dozens of neighbors mobilized by attending community meetings, writing letters to news outlets, putting up yard signs, educating elected officials, and staying on top of Encina’s every move and lie. It’s truly inspiring to be involved in such a powerful movement, led by the inimitable Save Our Susquehanna.

I would be remiss not to mention our other partners involved in this victory. Beyond Plastics, Climate Reality Project, Mom’s Clean Air Force, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, People Over Petro Coalition, Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives, and Rail Pollution Protection Pittsburgh all played a pivotal role in defeating Encina. Individuals like Sandy Field, Andrew Stuhl and Steve Paterson were key to this success as were dozens of others. Our experience with Encina drives home the point that when we fight together, we win.
