I am tired of politicians putting the cart before the proverbial horse and pushing through policies and agendas that haven't been fully thought through. A great example is the Biden administration's electric vehicle mandate. This ill-thought-out policy may have a massively negative impact on consumers and our overall economy.
The mandate - which forces the automotive industry to significantly increase its electric vehicle production within the next 8 years - will tie consumers hands when it comes to buying new cars. This mandate would greatly impact rural Pennsylvania, as the charging infrastructure for this to work is basically non-existent throughout rural areas and, by the very nature of where we live, we are incredibly reliant on private transportation to do everything from go to the grocery store to see a doctor and everything in between.
This government interference in the private market will limit consumers' vehicle choices and put an undue burden on rural Americans. And, it goes without saying that if there was a serious consumer interest in buying more electric vehicles, this government interference via regulatory mandate wouldn't even be considered.
I don't want the government telling me what I can and can't buy. The last thing I and likely any motorist wants to happen is to be stuck somewhere with no opportunity to recharge their vehicle. It's time to put the brakes on this policy and let consumers drive the market.
