I've been pondering board representative Cherie Peters' comment at the last meeting of the Jersey Shore Area School Board. Ms. Peters rather forcefully remarked that she will NOT revisit the Salladasburg school closure vote. Doesn't she understand it is her sworn duty to consider every agenda item brought before the board whether she likes it or not? To carefully consider and then make a decision that is in the best interest of her constituents? As is the duty of all board members. Shocking to think an elected representative chooses to ignore her oath, code of conduct, and board policy by picking and choosing what she will and will not consider. Same for any board member who would ever make such a statement.
Of course then we have Ms. Stemler, the board president, who tried at the same meeting, to shut down questions from the public during the public comment period. Also ignoring specific board policy. Policy that specifies not only the kinds of questions that may be asked but also that all questions from the public will be answered either at the meeting they were presented or as soon as possible at a later public meeting. Not ignore them completely as has been the practice of our school board for far too long. Do these people even read their own policy manual??? If not, I suggest it would be an excellent idea if they did so BEFORE the next board meeting.
