Inhumanity towards others feels so pervasive it could bring the most stoic to tears. There's the ongoing invasion of Ukraine and the murder of its people, a President-elect who praises authoritarian leaders and threatens our democratic allies, but it's the continued support of Israel's acts of genocide against the Palestinian people, by both political parties, that should be sounding the alarm.
As Nazi Germany began the systematic murder of Jews, right wing factions convinced our leaders to sit on the sidelines until we were attacked at Pearl Harbor. Now, as Israel is systematically wiping out Palestine as a country, and Palestinians as a people (2/3rds of Gaza dead are women and children!), we're not only stifling criticism, we're continuing to send Israel weapons.
Trump's nomination of Mike Huckabee, who once said, "There's really no such thing as a Palestinian," to serve as U.S. ambassador to Israel is tacit approval of Palestinian genocide.
Certain factions will label this perspective anti-Semitism, which is utter nonsense! Experts around the world conclude, unambiguously, that what's happening in Gaza is genocide. On Christmas eve, a Christian pastor in Jerusalem called it genocide. Raz Segal, the head of genocide studies at Stockton University, says it's a "textbook case." An investigation by Boston University School of Law's International Human Rights Clinic concludes that Israel has committed and is continuing to commit genocide against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip.
Have we learned nothing from history? Where are our values? Why doesn't the U.S. stand up for decency?
