Commonsense energy policy can help us achieve greater U.S. energy dominance and reduce inflation for families, as Congressmen Dan Meuser and Glenn "GT" Thompson expressed in recent comments and the Sun-Gazette pointed out in the editorial "A step closer to sound energy policy" (Jan. 24).
American energy policy was clearly on the ballot last fall, when voters voiced support for smart policies that help strengthen U.S. energy leadership, create good jobs, support consumer choice and keep the lights on.
Following the election, the American Petroleum Institute expanded its policy roadmap to seize the "American Energy Opportunity" before us. These policy actions include protecting consumer choice, leveraging our natural resources, reforming our permitting system, bolstering geopolitical strength and advancing sensible tax policy.
The Trump administration took swift action, rolling back restrictive policies like the U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) export permit pause and heavy-handed vehicle mandates – critical first steps to unleashing America's energy potential and economic growth.
In shale-rich northeast Pennsylvania, pro-energy policies could help attract more investment and encourage natural gas drilling and the buildout of energy infrastructure, generating good jobs and additional revenue for the state and local economies. Statewide, the natural gas and oil industry supports over 423,000 jobs and contributes $75 billion to Pennsylvania's economy.
Tackling America's energy challenges takes leadership and initiative, and we applaud the advancement of policies that leverage our abundant natural resources, support an all-of-the-above energy approach and help secure a strong energy future here at home.
