When my son was 7 in 1995, he loved basketball. I heard about the John Bower Sunday School Basketball League from a friend so we got him signed up on the St. Ann's team. I remember the first game and when I walked in, I saw Bob Cellini who was a lead volunteer for the program. Over the next several years, I noted that Bob was there every Saturday morning and also ran the gym for practices during the week.
This year, my grandson (the son of the boy who played in 1995) played for the same St. Ann's team as his Dad. When I walked into the gym for the 1st game, I was amazed to see Bob Cellini still out there running the show (with an incredible team of volunteers). And when I took my grandson to practice on Thursday night, there was Bob again. I felt like I was in a time warp.
Here's a man who had dedicated his life to helping young people. And it seems like it's a full week 2nd job. The Bower League is special. In today's world, we need to give children something good and healthy to do with adult mentoring. It grows great kids. Thirty years later and this man is still helping children (and their parents). Thank you Bob Cellini. The world needs more Bob Cellinis.
