In Pennsylvania millions of chickens with bird flu have had to be killed. This is happening all over the country as there were 66 confirmed cases of bird flu in the United States in 2024. One person died, and four have been hospitalized.
Bird (Avian) Flu is real and gathering momentum.
Meanwhile Trump has fired 1300 employees at the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and instructed them to stop issuing health advisories.
When President last term, Trump repeatedly downplayed the threat of Covid which eventually killed over a million Americans. He rejected science, instead recommended hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine 65 times in White House briefings although those "remedies" killed over a thousand people worldwide. Trump dismissed vaccinations (though he himself was vaccinated). Consequently only 60% of those who voted for him got vaccinated versus 81% of those in Biden counties. Those vaccinated were 10 times less likely to die than the unvaccinated.
Trump has appointed Robert Kennedy Jr, who opposes vaccinations, as Secretary of Health.
Trump left the World Health Organization (WHO) which limits our access to information about outbreaks and weakens our ability to develop vaccines, leaving the US vulnerable to future pandemics and other health crises. Despite pending health crises, the administration demonstrated its priorities. Last week the Republican-dominated House Budget Committee proposed cutting $1.5 trillion from Medicare, Medicaid, and supplemental nutrition programs. This cut would help pay for extending tax cuts for wealthy and corporations, adding $4.5 trillion to the deficit.
