McCormick strikes out
Pennsylvania Senator Dave McCormick claims he scrutinized every nominee for the president’s cabinet. “I’ve sat down with every single nominee,” he said. “I’ve watched their hearings carefully, and so when I’ve given my vote of support it’s based on being informed.”
Really?
McCormick voted to confirm Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense–a former Fox TV host with no senior military experience, a serious drinking problem, accusations of sexual assault, and a record of financial mismanagement.
He voted for Kash Patel for FBI Director – a conspiracy theorist with no law enforcement background who published an enemies list of “Government Gangsters.”
He backed Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence, despite her history of echoing Russian propaganda and meeting with murderous Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.
He supported Russell Vought to head the Office of Management and Budget, the mastermind behind the unpopular plan to dismantle the federal government,
He voted for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. – a vaccine skeptic and promoter of junk science – as Secretary of Health and Human Services.
And he voted to confirm Linda McMahon, former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, to lead the Department of Education.
Many Pennsylvanians assumed McCormick had the judgment to reject obviously disqualified nominees. But he didn’t find the courage to vote against even one of 20 nominees – some of the most poorly qualified in U.S. history.
Already, these new cabinet members are wreaking predictable damage on our democratic institutions.
When the stakes were high, McCormick didn’t just drop the ball. He struck out.
