My father-in-law Jack Lakey was a POW in Nazi Germany during WWII. He and millions of other American women and men served, fought, sacrificed, and even died to protect our country, our democracy, and our Constitution. Now Elon Musk and Donald Trump are taking actions that threaten the very principles those men and women did so much to protect.
Specifically, Trump and Musk are pushing cuts to Veterans Affairs staffing and thereby to the services the VA provides. These cuts are an insult to every American veteran from any war, not just WWII. More broadly, the unconstitutional and even illegal actions Musk and Trump are pushing in every other agency in the government are the opposite of the principles of democracy our veterans fought and sacrificed for. Instead of taking these harmful actions, Musk and Trump should respect veterans and protect these people who served in our military to ensure our freedom, democracy, and Constitution. They should daily thank all veterans for their service to our country.
