I just listened to the telephone town hall with Representative Dan Meuser. What a waste of time! The first caller accused him of being a "Trump cheerleader." Of course he pivoted saying, many times, that the people wanted this! No mention of the millions who marched last weekend in all 50 states in opposition to Trump's dismantling of democracy.
I knew prior to logging in that he would pivot to Republican talking points and place the blame for everything on Democrats, and he did just that! He began by telling us how he stands for the Constitution, yet he did not mention how Trump has violated the Constitution's separation of powers by withholding money already appropriated by Congress for USAID. When asked about the tax cut for the rich, he justified that with talking points and said how good it was for all of us. He said more than 77 million people voted for this!
Frankly, I would rather take a small hit on my taxes than see Social Security, Medicaid, Veterans services, Meals on Wheels, Farm Aid, and so many other programs that help the common citizens taken away so that millionaires just might become billionaires. He mentioned that the tax cuts are great for research and development, yet any economist will tell you these tax cuts benefit no one but big business, which uses the money for stock buy-backs and massive CEO bonuses. He said there would be NO cuts to benefits and services, yet those services cuts have made it nearly impossible for people to even get through to an agency on the phone, only to be told they need to call another number to make an appointment. He hammered on about the need to cut expenses, something most of us agree with, but not in the erratic way it's occurring. When asked about people in government getting rich although they are not paid exorbitant salaries, he pointed to Nancy Pelosi. No mention of the hundreds of billions in contracts given to Elon Musk or whether those contracts were even bid on by others.
Dan Meuser wants to be Governor of Pennsylvania, yet he continues to cheer on the cuts. Cuts to OSHA making the workplace less safe. Cuts to the FAA making air travel less safe. Cuts to environmental programs that make our air and water less safe. Cuts to the FDA and USDA making our food and drugs less safe. He never mentioned how the department in charge of investigating fraud in the bitcoin area was pretty much disbanded because Trump is now in the bitcoin business.
He mentioned several times that "if Pennsylvania had the right Governor" how things would be different in our state. They surely would. He would slash state services that help us in favor of giving to wealthy donors. Meuser wants to be Pennsylvania's governor, yet he doesn't listen to the people who are his constituents. Dan Meuser does not care about you and me!
