Losing faith in Washington

3 min read

I recently attended Dan Meuser's phone town hall. He really wanted to let us know how bad the people holding us back are, how great his cause is, and how much he's fighting to make our lives better... but none of it felt genuine. I left the town hall thinking that Meuser is as fake of a politician as they come.

There were some interesting questions asked, but I never felt like any of them ever got meaningful answers. Questions about the stock market, economy, and government overreach were ignored or waived off. Instead, all I heard from him the entire town hall were the same talking points I've been hearing for years now. His explanations and reasonings were high in passion, but very low in actual details. I was hoping he'd be more in-depth about how exactly all of this was going to work through his, and this administration's, ideas. Instead, I got broad promises and vague details.

I want a plan, not promises. We just witnessed the stock market crash when these tariffs were implemented. People started to panic about a recession and rising costs, and I started to panic too. Instead of reassurance that there was a concrete plan from our leaders; we found out that they used the wrong formula, we witnessed them publicly fighting each other over the tariffs, and they kept saying "there will be pain." Then, after a week of the government insisting that they knew better than us, they suddenly changed their minds and reversed the tariffs. How am I supposed to believe there is a plan, and that it's a good one, when all I'm seeing is chaos and confusion?

My trust and faith in our politicians in Washington, Republican and Democrat alike, is completely diminished. Dan Meuser put the final nail in the coffin last night when he couldn't even respect his constituents enough to regurgitate the same old rhetoric to our faces. The House of Representatives is on recess for 2 weeks starting April 11th. Why is he unable to have an in-person town hall in the 2-week period he will be home in PA for? Is it because he is scared that we will see through his façade the moment we see him in person? Dan Meuser showed me how spineless and pathetic our politicians have truly become. They follow the orders of the RNC and DNC, they represent them, not us.

It doesn't matter which political party is in power, I have no faith either of them are capable of delivering the promises of success and prosperity that they so commonly guarantee.
