Despite certain pretenses of some leftist educators and historians, past and present, George Washington was a man of devout Christian faith. Honest research into his own writings alone bears this out.
As a young colonel in the French and Indian War, Washington's life was spared on more than one occasion by the force of seeming miracles. One in particular, in the woods of western Pennsylvania, when he and British General Edward Braddock were on the expedition to capture Fort Duquesne from the French, they and their men were ambushed by Indians and French. Braddock, all his officers, and hundreds of British and American soldiers were killed. Washington was completely unharmed.
Washington wrote his brother: "I had four bullets through my coat, and two horses shot under me, and yet escaped unhurt." Why was Washington not killed? His own answer was—"the miraculous care of Providence."
During that miserably brutal winter of 1777-1778 at Valley Forge when the Revolutionary War seemed all but lost, several men, including two clergymen, and General Henry Knox, gave accounts of Washington praying there. A well-known narrative is that of Washington offering a fervent prayer privately in a grove unknowingly being seen by one Isaac Plotts, a Quaker living near Valley Forge. Of course, we know how that ultimately turned out.
On July 13th of last year, less than fifty miles from where Fort Duquesne stood, at a rally in Butler, PA, President Donald Trump's life was spared when he turned his head to view a chart just as an assassin's bullet grazed his ear. Had he not turned, he surely would have been fatally shot. Several weeks later, he was saved from another would-be assassin, thanks to a Secret Service member.
President Trump said he believes the Almighty spared his life for a greater purpose. In my own heart and mind, I too, believe that. As of this writing, he is winding up a very successful trip to the Middle East working with several leaders there for peace and prosperity for us and the rest of the world. Here at home, his administration has already made us much safer by securing the borders and greatly improving our justice system.
And yet, there are those in the news media, nationally and locally, who are saying and writing things that are very dangerously malevolent toward President Trump. Sorry to end this letter like this, but the Almighty, in His own way and time, will take care of those people in a manner they deserve.
