The Big, Beautiful Bill, passed by the House of Representatives, is beautiful only if you are very wealthy, not if you are a Senior Citizen, or if you are raising a family on an average income. The lowest earners will actually pay more in taxes. The CBO is a non-partisan entity that provides to Congress the impact of their proposed legislation, and they knew before they passed this bill that it would trigger half a trillion dollars in cuts to Medicare. They passed it anyway, with big tax cuts for billionaires, and easing regulations that affect them. The CBO projects that 8.7 million people will lose Medicaid coverage and 7.6 million more will be uninsured within 10 years. According to experts, passage of the bill will lead to over 18,000 avoidable deaths per year stemming from loss of medication subsidies. This bill is the largest upward transfer of wealth in American history. It is Robin Hood done backwards, stealing from the poor and giving to the rich. No other developed nation in the world would tolerate this. The GOP is serving the wealthy donors who paid for their seats. Voters were promised a healthy economy. They were lied to again.
Thanks to this commitment to the wealthy, millions will lose their healthcare, resulting in poverty and bankruptcy. And $5 trillion is being added to the US deficit, so we are not paying down the country's debt. A year ago, our economy was the envy of the world, because we were emerging from the catastrophe caused by the pandemic, with a healthy economy. Other countries weren't able to do that, but we worked hard, thanks to the Fed, and were coming out the other side healthy. Now we are plummeting back down thanks to tariffs and bad decisions, and for the first time in over 100 years have lost our top Moody's rating in part because Congress continues to increase our debt. If the GOP truly wants to lower the US debt, they need to remove the tax cuts for the wealthy and add regulations, and not cut Medicare.
Our country has become a plutocracy, meaning it is run by the wealthy. The cabinet is made up of billionaires. Congress is ruling for the wealthy. The Senate voted to put those billionaires in their cabinet positions. And the richest man in the world has dismantled a large part of the government, and more and more we will be feeling the detrimental effects of that. On June 14, there is going to be a big military parade in Washington costing over $90 million. The government cannot afford to continue to support our senior citizens, but they can afford this showy parade.
