The recent silence from former President Donald Trump regarding Ukraine's bold drone strikes on Russian airfields is yet another indication of his alignment with Russia in this ongoing conflict. While Ukraine fights for its survival against an unprovoked invasion, Trump and many in his MAGA base continue to frame Ukraine as the aggressor--an assertion that defies both logic and historical fact.
Russia initiated this war with the expectation of a swift victory, aiming to annex the remainder of Ukraine. Ukraine did not invade Russia; rather, it has been forced into a defensive struggle for its sovereignty. Since the war began, Russia has not only targeted Ukraine's military but has also deliberately attacked civilians in an effort to break the nation's spirit and force surrender. Despite these brutal tactics, Ukraine has persevered, thanks to its resilience and the crucial support of Europe and, most importantly, the United States.
Without continued American assistance, Russia may eventually succeed in its ambitions, leading to the complete takeover of Ukraine. A Russian victory would not only be a tragedy for Ukraine but would embolden Moscow to set its sights on other former Soviet territories. The stakes are far greater than one nation's survival -- this is about the preservation of democracy and the deterrence of authoritarian expansionism.
At what point will Trump and his supporters acknowledge that Ukraine is not the villain in this war? The world must stand firmly against Russian aggression, and America's leadership is vital in ensuring that Ukraine remains free.
