A promise kept or broken?

The rubber-stamp Congress passed the Big (expletive) Bill, ignoring their responsibility to work for the people. Instead, they gladly enslave themselves to a wanna-be autocrat so they can, hopefully, keep their jobs. Just in time; the showman will sign this hoax into law in the middle of Fourth of July festivities, further demeaning the ideals of this once proud and promise-filled country that so many fought and died for.

A few crumbs were thrown to the masses (no tax on tips, overtime, and Social Security for example) to distract them so they won’t notice that ‘the haves’ get the most, and the government no longer works for everyone as the most vulnerable among us lose health care, hospitals, food and housing support, care for veterans, and equal public education. Over three trillion dollars is added to the national debt, hamstringing the futures of our children and grandchildren. What happened to his biggest campaign promise…. cutting the national debt?

To be fair and honest, this didn’t happen overnight. Through several administrations under both parties’ leadership, our ‘leaders’ have failed us, caring more for party and power than country and the Constitution they swore to uphold. They kick the can down the road instead of working to solve problems, ensuring that the American Ideal, enshrined in our founding documents, becomes a reality for EVERY American. Stopgap, short-term budgets and regular raising of the national debt avoided the need fiscally responsible policies for decades.

Our laws are being made by Executive Orders, many of which are illegal according to the Constitution. And Congress, whose most important responsibility is to make and fund the laws and serve as a check on Executive power, is AWOL.

WE have also failed them! The “unprecedented”, “powerful mandate” this ‘leader’ claims to have won was a mere 49.8% of the vote. Only 63.9% of eligible (registered plus unregistered) voters took advantage of their most valuable right and most important responsibility of citizenship. Citizens…do your job and demand the same of your representatives.
