I want to take a moment to publicly thank Representative Jamie Flick for his leadership and common-sense approach to reforming Pennsylvania's family court system. His recent effort to simplify and streamline custody decisions, as highlighted in your article "Lawmaker seeks to simplify custody decisions," is an inspiring and much-needed step forward for families across the Commonwealth.
Even though Rep. Flick is not my district representative, he's proven that his vision extends beyond political boundaries. He sees the bigger picture--understanding that issues like child custody aren't partisan, they're human. Like Senator John Kane, he's shown that doing what's right for Pennsylvania families can--and should--transcend party lines. That kind of clarity, courage, and compassion is exactly what we need more of in Harrisburg.
Rep. Flick's ability to cut through bureaucratic red tape and focus on what truly matters--families, fairness, and functionality--is exactly what sets him apart. He's not a career politician chasing headlines; he's a father, a citizen, and a problem-solver who brings lived experience and principled thinking to the table. In a political climate too often defined by gridlock and partisanship, Rep. Flick is proving that real solutions come from listening to people, applying common sense, and standing firm for what's right--even when it's not easy.
As someone personally impacted by a painful custody battle, I've experienced just how costly, confusing, and emotionally draining our current system can be. As a registered medical marijuana patient, I was forced to reduce or abandon my state-approved treatment just to maintain custody of my daughter. That's not justice--it's prejudice.
I'm grateful that Senator Kane of District 9 has recognized this injustice and introduced Senate Bill 926, which would protect parents from being penalized for legal medical marijuana use in family court. But real reform requires support in both chambers--and that's why Rep. Flick's leadership is so important.
This is the kind of representation Pennsylvanians deserve: lawmakers who aren't beholden to the legal establishment, but who bring real-world experience, moral conviction, and empathy to their roles. With champions like Representative Flick and Senator Kane, we have a genuine opportunity to protect parental rights and ensure that custody decisions are guided by the best interests of children--not outdated stigma or profit-driven legal culture.
