Un-United States
Mr. Trump is supposed to be the president of the United States of America. Instead, in the almost year he has been back in office, he has managed to divide the country into two camps, turning the United States of America into the Un-United States of Trump. Citizens in states that are led by Democrats have seen federal funds, mandated by Congress, removed from their coffers. They have been invaded by ICE and federalized National Guard troops who don’t know, or care about the state’s citizens, usurping the authority of the State. Citizens have seen the civil rights of their fellow citizens abused, as, without evidence or warrants, people are ‘disappeared’ from their homes, their jobs, and their lives.
Last week, Renee Good, the 37-year-old mother of three, was shot point blank three times in the face through the windshield of her car. Her ‘crime’? She didn’t exit her car when ICE, in masks , demanded she get out of the car. She wasn’t pulled over, she wasn’t speeding, she wasn’t attacking, she wasn’t shouting obscenities. What happened to her could happen to any of us.
I do not trust ICE and would not have exited my car either.
At the same time, in his campaign to win the Nobel Peace Prize, he claims to have ended eight wars. Ceasefires are NOT peace treaties and not one of his so-called cease fires has stopped the killing; civilians are dying every day. He has authorized blowing fishing boats of seas claiming, without evidence, that they are transporting drugs. He invaded an sovereign nation, Venezuela, to kidnap their ‘evil’ president, while keeping the corrupt government in place so Trump can grab the oil. In spite of Denmark’s place as a NATO partner, he continues to threaten to take Greenland – he ‘needs’ those valuable minerals!
Everything with Trump is a transaction, part of a deal, and his bottom line is how it enriches him and his billionaire buddies, not what’s best for America. Congress needs to take back their responsibilities and do their job. SCOTUS needs to rid themselves of politics and make their decisions based on an impartial consideration of the facts and the law. They need to get rid of the shadow docket that allows them make decisions without explanation.
I could go on, but what’s the point? I pray we have time to turn this travesty around, reject our imperial dreams and finally make the ideals so eloquently expressed in the Declaration of Independence a reality and model for all people!
