Governor Shapiro and his barking, clapping, trained seals in the state senate obviously want to help themselves. In this election year, they are once again talking about raising the minimum wage in order to appeal to the economic illiterates among the voters, even though they know, or should know that this will hurt many of the people they are purporting to help.
Shapiro stated that all the states around us have a higher minimum wage than Pennsylvania, to which I would ask; if all the states around you had a gasoline tax lower than yours, would you lower yours too? We all know the answer to that one.
He also stated that the state would save $300 million in entitlement spending with an increased minimum wage. Unfortunately, that number assumes that everyone making less than his new minimum wage would get a raise. The truth is that many of them will lose their jobs because the job does not produce the value to keep it at the new wage. This will make these people even more dependent on these programs. But Shapiro and his ilk don't care about the people and they don't care about taxpayers..
A higher minimum wage will also make it harder for students to find part-time employment, or low skill persons to find work. Without these opportunities to enter the job market, they will never obtain the experience to qualify them for higher paying jobs. It is a disaster for those people and the economy as a whole.
Something the proponents of raising the minimum wage don't seem to understand is that no matter what government says, the real minimum wage will always be zero, and the higher you make your pretend minimum wage the more people will get zero.
The best way to increase wages is through a robust economy. When jobs are numerous, wages increase. It's simple supply and demand. But rather than use good economic sense, the Democrats would rather prey on the ignorance of the voters. They would rather rein over a dystopian hellscape than live in paradise. Power is their one and only goal, and to get it they will say anything and deliver nothing, so they can just promise the same thing next election cycle. All the time the plight of the people gets worse, making them even more desperate for the promised prosperity that will never happen with the policies of the left.
Democratic economic policies are like playing Russian roulette with a Glock. Maybe it's time to take the fetters off the free market and let it do what it did in the early stages of this country, providing opportunity and prosperity never before seen on the earth.
