Where is the justice?

First of all, we do not deny that the U.S. government has an obligation to enforce existing laws on immigration.

But the current administration has chosen to enforce those laws outside the legal norms of due process and the presumption of innocence.

The foundation of our legal system is built on these norms, norms that apply to any and all defendants, regardless of their immigration status.

As enforcement is now being exercised, a homegrown criminal is afforded more constitutional protection than an immigrant whose sole offense is lacking the legal basis for working and living in the U.S.

The current enforcement policy has been shown to be both racist and marked by brute force, targeting immigrants, regardless of their legal status, and peaceful protesters.

The normalization of such tactics is a source of shame and dishonor for all Americans of every political ideology.

We call on all fellow citizens of good faith who believe strongly in our shared constitutional norms to demand a halt to the strong-arm tactics and thuggish abuses by our immigration law enforcers.
