Deer season
I read with interest an article in the Outdoor section of the Sun-Gazette regarding the introduction of a bill by a couple of local legislators to move the opening day of firearm deer season back to the traditional Monday after Thanksgiving. I whole heartedly support this and was disappointed in the PGC when it recently rejected the idea. The PGC has consistently touted the benefits of the recent move to a Saturday opener on many occasions during speaking engagements and written publications like the Pennsylvania Game News. For the life of me I don’t know where or how they got the data to support this concept. Whatever the means, I have to believe the “study’s design was flawed because I have not run across any hunter in the last few years that think the Saturday opener is wonderful. Most don’t like it at all while a small minority state that it makes no difference to them. I commend the efforts of those two lawmakers to restore the Monday opener but make no mistake, this is will be an uphill battle of major proportions. It likely will not even get out of committee. The PGC has a lot of power in Harrisburg and they are not going to like being told by the legislature to change something they obviously think is good policy. I urge concerned hunters to contact their respective legislators and express your opinion on this matter.
