Surrender in Alaska

When Trump met with Putin last year in Alaska, his intent was to make his Russian counterpart “see the light” regarding the war in Ukraine. Instead, I believe it was Putin that showed him the darkness–that autocracy works, and might makes right. Cooperation is not the endpoint of foreign policy; it is subjugation, and that control of oil is the key.

This is not strength but surrender with a handshake.

In the end, character matters. Perhaps it is the most important thing.
