Deck is stacked
As I write this letter, on April 29, 2026, the Supreme Court has once again shown itself to be another political branch of our government, not the apolitical guardian of the Constitution the Founding Fathers intended. They have decided, along biased party lines, that gerrymandering to ensure every voter an equal voice is unconstitutional, but gerrymandering to give one party an advantage is perfectly fine…and can be done whenever – not on the traditional 10-year timetable that is tied to the census.
Gerrymandering is “the political tactic of manipulating the boundaries of electoral districts for unfair political advantage.” In my opinion, this makes it inherently anti-democratic, and it should have been banned when first used in Boston on March 26, 1812. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court, in its biased reasoning, has determined that parties should have a louder voice than citizens. It reminds me of their decision, several years ago, that corporations are people, so it is perfectly legal for large donations to buy influence and further corrupt our system. The deck is stacked, the will of the people is ignored, democracy is on life-support, and we voters are the losers as we slide faster and further into autocracy.
