Don’t blame the messenger
Several writers seem to have neglected to read the letter written by Williamsport Mayor Slaughter regarding the cancellation of fireworks in the city this year. They have chosen to instead focus on attacking the person who wrote the letter. When I saw the announcement I knew that whoever delivered that message was going to be skewered by many residents. It is sad that so many people have a need to attack someone personally rather than pay attention to the facts. Meetings were held with the fire and police departments as well as other safety officials, and the decision was made together, not by the Mayor alone. How do I know this? I read the letter. All of these people blaming the Mayor apparently have never heard the phrase, “don’t kill the messenger.”
Every time you disagree with something, it is not necessary to find someone to blame and publicly attack them. This country needs to go back to civility, and it needs to start at the top.
