Welcoming the world

2 min read

This year marks the 79th anniversary of Williamsport hosting the Little League World Series. Teams from 29 countries and 44 states have come to compete over the years. Williamsport and the surrounding areas always put their best foot forward before the world arrives. Streets are repaved, litter is cleaned up, and the area is beautified. Visitors from all over the globe can experience the scenic splendor we invite them to share during their stay. They can see our magnificent, historic Susquehanna River and the beautiful mountains that surround our valley. Perhaps they might even catch a glimpse of the wildlife that graces our region.

However, Williamsport and the Susquehanna River Valley will not be as welcoming or appealing to our Little League visitors--or anyone else--if data centers litter it. While we do have some industry along our river, it pales in comparison to the scale of the proposed data centers on both sides of the river and beyond. When visitors look upriver, is that the view we want them to see? Will people from all over the world still want to visit if data centers pollute the air and water, drive away wildlife, and create an eyesore? We want to continue to hear the crack of bats and the cheers of crowds, not the constant 120Hz hum emitted by data centers. The frequencies and decibel levels produced by these centers can lead to numerous health issues, and they do not create a welcoming environment.

Williamsport wants the world to keep coming back. We hope to host the Little League World Series for another 79 years. Let us fight to keep our area pristine and beautiful for ourselves, future generations, and the friends from around the globe that we look forward to welcoming in the years to come.
