Did the writer of the June 29 letter “Not a Christian nation” ever read any originally sourced material From our founding era, (letters, newspapers, documents, textbooks, etc.)? I hope not. If she did and continues to claim, we are not a Christian Nation, is dishonest. Otherwise, she is ignorant. She has ignored some proofs I laid out in previous letters.
A careful reading of The Declaration of Independence references God a number of times. In fact, there are direct references: 'The Laws of Nature and of Nature's God'; 'Creator'; 'Divine Providence'; 'Supreme Judge of the world.' Ending The Declaration, the Signers pledged their, Lives, Fortunes and sacred Honor. Pledges have a recognition of a Higher Power to Whom the pledges are answerable. I wonder Who they feared?
Yes, the church and state are two separate entities, which is a Biblical concept, (Exodus, Deuteronomy).
The Founders understood people of other religions couldn't be forced to become Christians. The idea of allowing for the freedom of conscience is Biblically sound, (as are most of the amendments); because we are a Christian Nation.
Different than European countries our Forefathers knew when people of other beliefs are exposed to a society immersed in the many religious (denominations) views of Christianity, and the resulting style of government, from such a society, will challenge anyone's heart to question their deeply held convictions.
Because we are truly a Christian Nation, our taxes are separated from our giving. I don't know how this is in conflict of giving to Caesar and giving to God. This also requires the government to not be immersed in social programs. "That if any would not work, neither shall he eat" – (II Thessalonians 3:10b). A 2024 study by 'Just Facts,' concluded: "if the US poor were a country, it would rank among the world's richest."
The writer is confusing Jesus' declarations to the church that it is not to be government over the world, but He came to fulfill The Law and The Prophets, (Matt. 5:17). What was the duty of The Prophets? To hold the governing officials accountable to The Law. Our Founders produced a Constitutional Republic based on the Ten Commandments, Biblical morality and civility.
The cause for today's upside-down world, is due to the Church not standing Her proper ground as did the Founders and following generations.
We have been given so much, because dedicated people, with a deep understanding of Scripture, (Read Luke 19:11 – 27) investing the riches of The Kingdom of God into the lives of men, by following His message to: "occupy until I come." – vs.13 Are we following His teachings?
