Fantastic

The Great Lakes Wind Symphony (GLWS) held a concert at the Howard Theater in the Williamsport Scottish Rite facility on Saturday, August 22 and Sunday, August 23.

In one word, it was FANTASTIC!

Different from the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra, this is a wind ensemble with no string instruments. A symphonic band is more familiar to most people, typically larger and includes string instruments. GLWS focuses on American composers including arrangements by the conductor himself. The concerts are based on timely themes, this past weekend's being "For the Love of the Game" that included music from America's favorite pastime – baseball. Among other tunes, we listened to Take me out to the Ball Game, a tribute to "The Natural" (a baseball movie starring Robert Redford), and a narrated piece called Casey at Bat. The music was beautiful and the theme was a perfect fit for Little League week in Williamsport!

If you love music, I highly recommend seeing a GLWS concert. The next concert is on November 14 and 15 with the theme of A Salute to Our Heroes. It is a perfect way to celebrate Veteran's Day. We are fortunate in this area to have such wonderful musical opportunities to experience! Thank you to the musicians of the GLWS – it is clear that you practice and bring your love of music and professionalism to the stage.
