Irresponsible

2 min read

Trump's proposed $5,000 "dividend" tied to Republicans winning the midterms is not only irresponsible but very likely illegal under U.S. federal election law. Federal statutes clearly make it a crime to offer money or anything of value to influence how someone votes. Penalties include fines and up to one year in prison, or two years for willful violations. Conditioning a cash payout on an election outcome is exactly the kind of vote‑buying scheme those laws were written to prevent.

The idea is despicable, dangerous, and corrosive to democratic norms. Any president proposing to install such a plan should face serious consequences, including impeachment and conviction if Trump or anyone in Congress or the Supreme Court still cares about the rule of law and the Constitution.

America deserves leaders who respect the law, uphold democratic principles, and put the country ahead of personal ambition. It is time to move past Trump's chaos. Support the Democrats and Republicans who still care about America's institutions, America's allies, and America's future. If they cannot explicitly state they are against all the damage and dysfunction Trump has created, then vote them out.
