Just got my sign

2 min read

I am encouraged by all the "No Data Centers" yard signs in my neighborhood. I fully support those citizens and believe we do need Data Centers. Who wants the data centers? It is the Government and that government is the largest landowner in America. Why not use land the government now owns?

I oppose taking lovely farmland for large data centers when the government has many closed military bases, bombing ranges and grasslands in the American west that could easily accommodate several or a dozen Data Centers. For example, if the government put one, three or a dozen Data Centers in AREA 51, who would complain?

Some folks say the Data Centers need much water which is scarce in the west. Ok, the Government owns much land along both coasts beside both oceans and the Gulf of America. Cooling water does not need to be potable (drinkable), so why not use EXISTING government owned land before good farmland is gone forever?

I just got my "No Data Centers" yard sign. Yes, I want us to be ahead of China in the Data Center race. The government needs to get smarter and use existing land they own.
