Dumb farmers

2 min read

I chose the title of my letter, not because I believe that, but I wanted my neighbor farmers and friends to read this letter. Farming is one of the toughest occupations there is. There are so many variables that are hard, or impossible to control that it is tough to be successful. I have tried to be a farmer, but age, health, genetics and Donald Trump are driving me out of the business. The input cost such as fuel, fertilizer, and equipment continue to increase and Trump's policies are a major factor. The ability to make a profit from sales of grain and beef are also at the whim of a President who has no idea of the effects of his tariff policies.

With the absurd Iran War and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, diesel prices are up 75%. Fertilizer prices have also gone way up, and a farmer has no control of these costs. Add to this the export market for grain that has been rattled by insane tariff policy. So the farmer has little, or no, control over input costs or final sale profits. The one thing a farmer does have control of is their vote. The President is not on the ballot, but the Trump SS (spineless sycophants) are up for election. How any farming state could not vote for candidates willing to rein in someone who is more interested in a ballroom than the good of American Farmers is absolutely beyond my comprehension, but I am just a dumb farmer! One way to cut down on the cost of fertilizer, if you can afford the fuel, is to go to the White House and fill your manure spreader with the BS that is piling upi the Oval Office. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
