Don’t blame the messenger

Several writers seem to have neglected to read the letter written by Williamsport Mayor Slaughter regarding the cancellation of fireworks in the city this year. They have chosen to instead focus on attacking the person who wrote the letter. When I saw the announcement I knew that whoever delivered that message was going to be skewered by many residents. It is sad that so many people have a need to attack someone personally rather than pay attention to the facts. Meetings were held with the fire and police departments as well as other safety officials, and the decision was made together, ...

Gun violence or people violence?

In a letter from April 27, the writer assures us that if we just ban guns, violence will stop. How so? He does nothing to explain how violent people will stop. Or who will stop them. Or, perhaps, every person who is attacked by someone intent on committing violence should just submit to injury, rape, or death, just so the perpetrator can feel better. At least that’s the way the courts and left wing politicians seem to feel about it. Even though they’re protected by people with guns. You’re so concerned about a federal concealed carry mandate yet, with millions of people ...

Paper ballots

In this day and age with all this concern about rigged elections and cheating (rightfully so) I’d like to see an aggressive movement towards imposing paper ballots, voter I.D. and same day voting in all local, state and Federal elections. No mail-ins except for Service personnel abroad and illness/handicapped individuals. I honestly believe anyone who feels differently must be planning on cheating. Let’s bring respect and integrity back in our elections and eliminate all of these voting machines. GEORGE W. LOCKETT Morris Submitted by Virtual Newsroom

Violence and misogyny

America’s fertility rate dropped to a historic low: govfacts.org reported in December 2025 the fertility rate is 1.6 children per woman, well below the 2.1 per woman level needed to maintain the current population(without immigration). The rising cost of living-childcare, education, housing-all contribute to a falling birth rate. Furthermore, social norms and shifting priorities , people marrying later or not at all, and concerns about the future (climate change, political instability) also play a part. The most telling reason , though, is women making a conscious decision to ...

Thank you

As a former resident of Lycoming County, I wanted to write a note thanking the Muncy Township supervisors for the entertainment they provide with their lame excuse of leadership and the joke that their meetings have become. Also thank you to the Sun-Gazette for recording the meetings so that people like myself who now live out of the state can enjoy watching unqualified individuals attempt to play politics and be grateful we don’t live in the area anymore. Its fantastic entertainment, who needs daytime soap operas when you have this! VINCENT MICHAEL Mooresville Submitted ...

No fun in the Sun

My neighbors and I are done with your Republican paper. Its cartoons and editorials are always attacking the other side. There’s no fun in the Sun. We choose The Express. It’s a homespun paper with simple issues that people want to read. One thing you need is a page that lists all the scams in the area. They come to our Seniors every day from their computers, mail, and phone and they don’t know where to turn for help. The Sun could Alert the public in every issue, but you won’t, because you don’t work for the people. They would know it was fake if you were helpful. So, keep ...
