We need WPSU

Public media in central and northern Pennsylvania is at a pivotal moment. When Penn State announced it would no longer support WPSU, the future of local public television and radio became unclear. More than 20,000 people signed a petition urging the University to protect this essential community service. A path forward emerged: transfer the WPSU broadcast license to WHYY while preserving WPSU’s regional identity and local mission. That transfer is underway. Once final agreements are completed, the license request will be filed with the FCC. After approval, the transition will be ...

To Representative Meuser

Congressman Meuser, I have never been blessed with children of my own so I share with you the writings of an American mother as she reflects on the death of 165 children killed on February 28, 2026. They died as a result of a bomb that was delivered on the school they were attending as part of Operation Epic Fury. “There is an emptiness that follows violence that is not quiet, even when no one is speaking. It has weight, temperature, and it moves through rooms like a slow breeze. It lives in the place where a child should be, in the space beside you on a mat, in the corner where ...

Daylight savings time

It is time to stop the changing of time back and forward and back and forward twice a year. It no longer makes any sense and causes difficulty for people of all ages to adjust to the change. Teachers will attest to the fact that students struggle during the week after the Spring change. We have four months of standard time - one third of the year - and eight months of daylight saving time - two thirds of the year. Now that we’re on daylight saving time, let’s make it permanent. The extra hour of light allows time for activities after work and school and for family ...

Bi-partisan

After reading the March 11 letter “an economic fable” on the current administrations handling of our economy, I’m going to take a wild guess that the writer might be a far left wing Democrat who either never heard the term “bi-partisan” or politically cannot understand its meaning. Spiraling into chaos

It seems our government is on a self-destruction mission as we accelerate our spiral into chaos! The Legislature and Supreme Court are both more than happy to collect their paychecks while they cede their Constitutional responsibilities to the wannabe king who makes spur-of-the-moment decisions with no interest in what’s best for the country, no planning, and no thoughtful consideration of probable consequences. The cabinet is composed of incompetent lackeys who do not have the skills to fulfill their Constitutional duty to advise the president…they just say “Whatever you say, ...

For the PA deer hunter

Thank you for printing Senator Gene Yaw’s Opinion column, “Protect Pennsylvania’s hunting economy”, in your March 11, 2026 newspaper. Senator Yaw clearly stated the reasons why the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) went the wrong way when it decreed in 2019 the Opening Day of rifle deer season in PA would be the Saturday after Thanksgiving. There was NO hunter input asked for by PGC before this decree changing opening day of rifle deer season. The fallout was worse because many rural community churches, fire halls and local businesses suddenly “Lost” much needed revenue by ...
