Who won in Minneapolis?

The recent drawdown of DHS agents from Minneapolis is being hailed as a victory for the forces of anarchy acting relentlessly to destroy our Republic and the American Dream. Indeed, a fair number of conservatives have expressed the drawdown “feels” like a loss. But is it? So let’s start with the proximate cause of the Minnesota mess. Under the mandate given Trump in the 2024 election, ICE was ordered to remove known criminal, illegal immigrants with existing Detainers, Arrest Warrants and Final Orders of Deportation from Minnesota, most of whom are current or recent guests of ...

When aid ends, a baby dies

President Trump promised countless sweeping actions on day one of his second term. Most of them never materialized. But one of the first major actions President Trump took was to end USAID, the agency responsible for global health programs, food security, disaster relief, and basic humanitarian support. Cutting it wasn’t just a bureaucratic shift; it was a decision with a body count. In the short term, researchers have estimated that 500,000–700,000 additional deaths per year as HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, and nutrition programs collapsed. Over the longer horizon, projections ...

Where is patriotism?

I’m first going to address the two letters printed by the editor on Jan. 9. Were either of the writers there when those two people were shot and did you see any of the videos that were taken? Where were you when Barack Obama deported more illegal immigrants than any other president? He also made a statement that they weren’t going to come here and get a free ride on the taxpayers’ backs. What about Joe Biden, when he was a senator, stating that the illegal immigrants aren’t wanted here and they have to go? We also have a Constitution and laws in this country, at least I think ...

Sanctuary cities

I believe during the Biden term the Democrats were able to import between 15 and 20 million new illegal new voters. they put them up in sanctuary cities controlled by Democrats. Democrats think that they have enough of them registered that they will be able to take over the House and Senate in this years election. Now they are willing to shut down the government to be able to keep their new voters. HARLAN PIDCOE JR. Muncy Township Submitted by Virtual Newsroom

From ‘shoot them in the leg’ to shoot to kill

During his first term, President Trump reportedly asked then–Defense Secretary Mark Esper whether soldiers deployed during the George Floyd protests could shoot demonstrators in the legs. Esper said no. Those now feel like the good old days. If events in Minneapolis over the past two weeks are any indication, the rules of engagement for ICE and Border Patrol agents have shifted dramatically—toward firing into heads and torsos for the offenses of being in the wrong place at the wrong time or recording federal agents operating against civilians on American streets. None of this ...

A view from Minneapolis

I grew up in Jersey Shore and have lived in Minneapolis for eight years. I call Minneapolis home because it feels familiar to me. It is a place where neighbors look out for each other, kids walk to school, and if something seems off, someone reaches out to make sure everything is okay. Until recently, I felt as safe here as I did growing up in JSPA. That sense of safety is gone. Over the past several weeks, two people, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, were killed, and countless others have been harassed, assaulted, or detained by federal agents in clear violation of constitutional rights. ...
