City Council’s action with regard to Bill Nichols is scandalous. Bill Nichols served the City of Williamsport for faithfully for decades. No money was appropriated by Bill Nichols. The money in question was used for a public purpose and even though not properly authorized, benefitted the city residents exclusively. Every decent doctor knows you don’t treat a deep skin cellulitis with topical medicine. One must give oral or IV antibiotics. One could draw a parallel to the fix for big-city crime. We should all be thankful for the thousands of federal government workers who have continued to work without pay during the weeks of shutdown. Air traffic controllers, National Weather Service employees, members of the military services and National Guard, altogether hundreds of thousands of people whose services we depend on to keep the country running and keep us safe.
