Poor farm policy

Farmers know how drought, floods and late spring freezes devastate crops. Their hard work is increasingly challenged by climate change. Now there’s erratic policy direction from President Trump. To help farmers make infrastructure investments to mitigate climate challenges, the Biden Administration’s Inflation Reduction Act offered them funds through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Farmers signed contracts and paid up front knowing that the federal government would cover some of their costs. Now, however, according to the Washington Post (Feb. 10), President Trump has frozen ...

Genuine leadership

Praise the Lord! After four miserable years with a mumbling, bumbling, and stumbling dictator, we are no longer a banana republic! Now under our superb leadership, we are once again a constitutional federal republic. Our democracy’s power is derived from our citizens. President Trump got a clear mandate on November 5th, from the American people. Promises made-promises kept. Even lifelong Democrats are turning from blue to red. It appears as though common sense makes sense to most intelligent people. President Trump has only been in  office a few days. Already he has done more for ...

Want to save money?

I keep reading articles about President Musk cutting Federal jobs in order to save taxpayer money. Why is he still paying senators, representatives and Supreme Court justices? These people are obviously not needed anymore as Musk and Trump are and will be running America without them. AL SEVER Loyalsock Township Submitted by email

Call your representatives

Here’s a Valentine’s Day Resolution: call your legislators. Let them know that you love, or are dismayed by, their policies. Elected officials work for you, even if you did not vote for them. That’s how representative government works! When you call, consider using the “4 B’s” approach: 1. Be prepared. Write brief notes to yourself which you can consult during the call. 2. Be specific. A “kitchen sink” list of complaints is less effective than mentioning 1-2 issues you support or dislike. 3. Be sure to include why you are personally interested in the ...

Misguided

The writer of the Feb. 6 letter “call to action” is so misguided. He thinks that President Trump and Elon Musk are going to destroy democracy. In contrast to what the Democrats have been doing for years with their deep state. After all, false charges and persecution of a sitting president, weaponization of the Department of Justice against Catholics, parents, and supporters of Mr. Trump are all part of the democratic process, as are the firing of military and civilian government employees for not getting the jab”. And let’s not forget the IRS going after conservative ...

US power, influence decline

President Trump’s command to end the United States Government’s Aid for International Development, executed by non-governmental staff Elon Musk, is both illegal and immoral. It is not within the jurisdiction of the President to unilaterally end government agencies without Congressional consent. As a private businessman, Musk lacks understanding of the rights and benefits of governmental employees. He and Trump have ignored the additional difficulties USAID staff will face in being abruptly terminated overseas away from U.S. support systems. Repercussions from suspended USAID ...
