Strikeouts doom Crosscutters in loss at Bowman Field on Friday
Williamsport struck out a season-high 17 times in their 6-1 loss at Bowman Field to the State College Spikes on Friday night. Cory Taylor drove in the lone run for Williamsport, plating Porter Brown with an RBI double in the fifth inning. It was Taylor’s third double of the season and his seventh RBI of the year.
Hughesville graduate Jacob Corson, Josh Lopez and Porter Brown each struck out three times in the losing effort. Emmett Bice suffered the loss, falling to 1-3 on the season and seeing his ERA rise to 5.05 for the year. Bice allowed five runs, all earned, over five innings of work.
Williamsport had their fair share of scoring opportunities, but finished 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position, leaving 10 runners on base. Williamsport holds a 6-4 record against State College with five games remaining between the two.
Williamsport is at State College on Saturday for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch.
