Strong start lifts Mexico past Canada; rain delays Aruba game

Mexico scored three runs in the top of the third inning to get out to a fast start and held off Canada en route to an 8-0 win.
The win advances Mexico in the tournament. Mexico will face either Chinese Taipei or Cuba on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Volunteer Stadium. The loss eliminates Canada from the Little League World Series.
After leading 3-0 in the first inning, Mexico scored another three in the third and tacked on additional runs in the fourth and sixth.
Mexico out-hit Canada, 9-2, in the game on Sunday morning.
Antonio Guerrero led Mexico with an outstanding 3 for 3 performance, hitting two doubles and scored three runs. Raul Hernandez went 2 for 2 with a double with an RBI, walk and two runs scored. Santiago Sotele went 1 for 2 with a double and run scored and Luis Longoria was 1 for 2 with a double and two RBIs.
Canada was limited to just two singles by Ronan Bobiles (1 for 3) and Eric Popvocih (1 for 2).
Hernandez Jr. started the game for Mexico and threw 2 1/3 innings of no-hit baseball, striking out three and isuing three walks. Francisco Aguilar and Dominic Balderas both came in relief for Mexico.
Mexico won its opener on Wednesday over Aruba, 2-0, but a 10-0 loss on Friday to Venezuela sent Mexico into the losers' bracket where they survived Sunday's game.
Sunday afternoon's between Aruba and Australia was suspended in the second inning after storms delayed the start of the game. That game will be resumed at 10 a.m. on Monday at Volunteer Stadium.
