Hamilton, Ohio continues playing its best baseball when the pressure is highest.
After suffering an opening loss at the Little League World Series, Ohio made it three straight elimination wins Tuesday night at Lamade Stadium fighting off a New Jersey comeback and winning, 5-2.
Ohio is now assured of a top four finish in the U.S. field for a second straight appearance after reaching the 2021 U.S. championship. The Great Lakes champions will try and build on their momentum Wednesday night when they face similarly streaking Alabama in another elimination game.
Boone Treadway continued his terrific Series, throwing five strong innings of four-hit baseball and striking out seven. He also walked three times and scored a run. Bryson Williams closed out the game after Treadway reached 85 pitches in the sixth inning.
"At the start I knew I was going to dominate the game," said Treadway who has walked eight times at the Series. "I felt confident and I felt like my defense had my back."
Jett Bridges hit a two-out RBI single and brought the tying run to the plate, but Williams induced a game-ending grounder to third baseman Leo Feltner as Ohio celebrated another victory.
Ohio also continued its trend for producing big innings, scoring five fourth inning runs to turn a scoreless contest into a 5-0 advantage.
Jack McAdams collected two hits and his RBI single started the scoring. Bob Frazier followed with an RBI grounder before Xander Kinkade roped a two-run single and Walker Osborne an RBI single.
New Jersey started 2-0 here, but could not rediscover its offensive punch against consecutive dominant pitchers in Anthony Johnson Jr. and Treadway. Still, the team from Bayonne enjoyed an amazing season, capturing its league's first state championship before adding a Metro Region championship and two exciting Series victories.
AJ Tapia singled and Connor Oliva doubled to start the fifth with Dwyer scoring Tapia with an RBI grounder. Treadway, however, shut it down from there, striking out the next two batters and preserving the 5-1 lead.
"We fought. We fought like we always tell Bayonne kids to do," New Jersey manager Justin Smith said. "We tell the kids don't go down without trying. They gave a great effort."
