Pitching was key on Day 3 for Curacao to beat Japan in 6-0 win

Jaymiell Martina and Giendry Ryan combined for a complete-game no-hitter against Japan to lift Curacao to a 6-0 win and advance in the winners' bracket.

Curacao will play on Sunday against either Brno, Czechia or Seoul, South Korea while Japan falls into the elimination bracket and will battle against Santiaga, Dominican Republic on Saturday at Volunteer Stadium.

Martina threw 4 2/3 innings of no-hit baseball with seven strikeouts before Ryan relieved him and had 1 1/3 innings of no-hit ball wtih four strikeouts. Martina walked just two batters.

Curacao jumped out to a two-run first inning to put runs on the board and kept increasing its lead from there with two in the second, one in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Raymiel Antonia went 2 for 2 with a run for Curacao while Shardijon De Lanoi (1 for 1, RBI, walk, run) had the game's only extra-base hit with a double.

Ryan went 1 for 2 with a run scored, Steven Felix went 1 for 2 wtih two RBIs, Nathaneal Jansen was 1 for 2 with a run and both Jordan Richards and Q'Jeaume Valks were 1 for 2 with RBIs.

"I felt good when I hit the ball," Felix said of his first-inning two-RBI single. "I was asking for it to fall and fall and it did and the runs came in. But mainly, I felt good hitting that ball."

In the second inning, an RBI ground out by Janga and an RBI bunt by Jordan Richards accounted for two runs. De Lanoi's RBI double in the fourth brought in Antonia, who reached on a dropped third strike.

In the fifth, Curacao's Janga was walked and would later score on an RBI single by Valks.
