Jersey Shore facts: The Bulldogs and Seals have played in four straight district championships with each winning two. Selinsgrove defeated Jersey Shore in the regular season last year, but the Bulldogs exacted revenge when they won the championship, 31-15. Selinsgrove leads District 4 Class AAAA in playoff points but Jersey Shore would vault past it if it wins in Selinsgrove for the first time since 2013. The Bulldogs have won four straight games since a season-opening loss to Bellefonte and are 10-2 since last year's loss to Selinsgrove. Jersey Shore rallied from a halftime deficit and defeated Montoursville, 29-13 last week. The defense dominated the second half as linebacker Hunter O'Connor made 15 tackles and Dominic Williams added 11. The Bulldogs frequently pressured the quarterback and intercepted three passes. Hunter Frantz had two interceptions and Cody Stetts added another. The offense is as powerful as the defense and is among the area's leaders in points and yards per game. Running back Kyle Tomb has topped 100 yards in four straight games and quarterback Elijah Shemory has thrown 46 touchdowns the past two seasons. Frantz leads the district in receiving yards and touchdowns and caught a 58-yard score against Montoursville. Koby Peacock has developed into one of the area's premier receivers and has caught five touchdowns the past three weeks. Frantz caught two touchdowns in last year's championship and Williams returned an interception for the game-clinching touchdown.
Jersey Shore player to watch--Mason Sechrist: The senior two-way starting lineman has put together an excellent scholastic career and was outstanding in last week's Montoursville game. Sechrist had 12 tackles and a sack in that game and is good at stuffing the run and rushing the passer. Putting pressure on quarterback Logan Leiby will be crucial tonight since the Seals feature the district's top passing offense.
Selinsgrove facts: The Seals played outstanding defense and rallied from a three-point deficit to beat Berwick, 17-6 last week and bounce back from a 2-point loss against Shikellamy. While the defense is strong, Selinsgrove has earned its biggest headlines for what it has done offensively. Quarterback Logan Leiby became District 4's all-time leader in yards and touchdowns earlier this season and already has thrown for 1,391 yards and 14 touchdowns. The four-year starter is a mobile threat as well and threw for 348 yards and three touchdowns in the regular-season win against Jersey Shore last year. Jarrett Inch, Ricky Cope and Josh Nylund are some of the team's many weapons in the passing game while Damian Ravy and Kody Showers each had nine catches in the final. Selinsgrove can run the ball and Joe Kahn and is averaging five yards per carry and has run for four touchdowns. Selinsgrove's starting defense has let just one team top 20 points and held Berwick to 118 yards last week. The Seals have forced 11 turnovers and four players have recorded multiple sacks. Hunter Croman and Tony Dressler each have three sacks and have combined for eight tackles for loss. Selinsgrove forced six turnovers in two games against Jersey Shore last year and intercepted four passes in the final.
Selinsgrove player to watch--Clayton Sheesley: The former Mifflinburg linebacker has made a big impact in his first year with the Seals, averaging a team-best 8.6 tackles per game. Sheesley made 13 tackles last week, including three for loss. He has 11 tackles for loss in five games and also has forced a fumble.
Outlook: It is not hard envisioning this game becoming a shoot-out or a defensive stalemate. Both teams are tough on both sides of the ball and know each other about as well as any opponents can. These are evenly matched teams so look for whoever wins the turnover battle to win a close game.
